June 2015 Favourites

This was a good month for makeup as I have a lot of favourites. We're getting into the summer months so I usually turn to long lasting (sweat-resistant) products and glowy skin.
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal- I'll start with my favourite product this month. I bought the small size of the Liquid Shimmering Skin Perfector but now I'm wishing I got the full size. I could literally bath in this stuff. It gives the most natural, lit from within glow that literally makes my heart skip a beat. It's probably the most gorgeous makeup item I own.

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette- This is one of my favourite palettes from one of my favourite brands. My brother's high school grad was this month and my dress was pink so this was obviously the perfect eyeshadow palette to complement it. I used the palette a lot this month in preparation as I was deciding on what look I was going to wear for the big night.

Tarte Park Ave Princess Palette-This palette has made it's way into my everyday use this month for a few reasons. I really like the highlight in this palette paired with my Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal. It's not too over powering to use on top of the Skin Perfector and it has a similar undertone. I've really been loving that combination this month. I've also been loving the bronzer as it's waterproof so it's long lasting for the summer heat. The blush is also beautiful and subtle for when my cheeks already have a natural summer blush.

Real Techniques Setting Brush- To go along with my last favourite, I've been using this brush a lot this month. As great as this brush is at setting under eye concealer, I really love using this brush to apply highlight. It can apply a soft amount directly where you want it.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner in Intense Black- This is a great liquid eyeliner, I can see why so many people love it. The felt tip is really fine which makes it super easy to draw the perfect winged liner. The formula is also really long lasting and never smudges. The only thing I wish I could change about the formula is that it dries shiny instead of matte.

Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray- This is a total holy grail summer product for me. I just spray this on and it makes my makeup last all day, even in the summer heat.

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Buttercream- This is the perfect summer moisturizer. The smell is so lovely and fresh. I'm totally addicted to it. The consistency is interesting as it almost feels more like a gel. It's squishy and jiggly for lack of any better words. It's not the most hydrating moisturizer but in the summer my skin is pretty good so I don't need the extra hydration.

Essie Lilacism- For my nail favourite this month, I've been loving Lilacism. Although Essie isn't my favourite nail polish brand for longevity, they do have the best colour selection at the drugstore. I really love this light purplish-blue colour.

Revlon ColorStay and Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge- My last favourite this month is a combination. I was kinda disappointed in both this foundation and sponge but it was only when I used them together that I fell in love. I always thought the foundation was a little too thick and cakey and the sponge didn't work well with some of the other foundations I used it with. But together the wet sponge really sheers out the foundation and blends it into the skin making my face look flawless. This is also the most long-lasting foundation I own so I'm glad I found a way to wear it.

And the Winner is...

Thanks to everyone who entered my giveaway for an Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick. The winner has been chosen and it is...

Congratulations! I've already emailed the winner!

I just want to thank everyone for getting me to 200 Followers. I've really enjoyed doing this giveaway so maybe I'll do another one soon.

June Ipsy Bag

After the awesomeness that was last month's bag, this month was a little bit of a disappointment. I'll start with the actual bag. It's black and made out of foamy soft material with Ipsy embossed on the front and a bright orange zipper. Honestly, not my style. In my opinion, there have been a lot better looking bags in recent months.

LaVanilla Laboratories- The Healthy Body Butter in Pure Vanilla
This is my favourite product I received in this month's bag. Vanilla is my all time favourite scent and this is a sophisticated version of that scent. It's really lovely. The body butter is also hydrating and non greasy. It's only a sample size but the full size retails for $19. I may have to invest.

TreStique Mini Shadow Crayon in Kona Coffee

This is a matte dark brown shadow pencil. I believe this is a new product. It's a decent shadow crayon as it lasts a long time on the lid and can be smudged out before it sets. I did find it to go on a little patchy, I wish the application would have been smoother. I received a mini size but the full size is available soon and retails for $26.

OFRA Eyeliner in Turquoise

This is a gorgeous Turquoise liner. I recently did a post on how to get away with wearing liner like this, you can find it here. It's a pencil liner so it's a little bit dry and less creamy but it's long lasting. This is a full size and it retails for $13.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

I actually already have a sample size of this primer. It's very good at helping your makeup last longer and go on smoother. To be honest I don't have that much more to say about it. It's a good primer. The full size retails for $36.

Sephora Formula X Nail Polish in Power Source

I already know that this is my favourite nail polish brand as it's the most long lasting out of every other brand I own. I really love this bright coral colour. I just wish it was a little bigger. The size of this sample is a little disappointing. The full size retails for $13.

Overall this month's bag was a little disappointing as there were a lot of mini sample size products.

Ro's Argan Body Conditioner vs. Nivea Body Milk

I've become a fan of in shower body conditioners recently. I find it faster and easier to condition in the shower than with a lotion or body butter once I get out. I thought I would review a cheap drugstore option and a more expensive Lush option.

Ro's Argan Body Conditioner
This is my favourite body conditioner that I've tried. It's super moisturizing and it smells absolutely amazing. It has a rose scent that lingers but isn't so strong that it interferes with any other perfumes you may wear. It's thick but once you massage it, it sinks into the skin well. It doesn't leave me feeling greasy after which is the biggest bonus for me. The only downside is if you use a lot to condition your whole body, the pot won't last you long. I tend to only use a finger tip amount for each limb and it's lasted me a while. It retails at Lush for $32.95.

Nivea In-Shower Body Milk
This is a fairly good, cheap alternative to the Lush body conditioner. I have the one for dry to very dry skin. Compared to the Lush conditioner, this is thinner and doesn't smell as lovely (but the scent isn't offensive). It does a good job hydrating but I find if I don't rinse it off really well it can leave a greasy film on my skin. The main difference is this is a quicker product. It doesn't need the same amount of time to sink in as the Lush conditioner, it can be rinsed off immediately. There's also almost double the product. It can be found at drugstores for $4.99.

Overall I think the Lush Body Conditioner is really worth the price but if you're trying to save your pennies the Nivea Body Milk is a decent alternative.

UK Beauty Bloggers- I NEED YOUR HELP!

In about a month I will be travelling to the UK! I'm so excited for my trip and to see all the sites but I'm also excited to have a chance to get some new makeup. I know there are certain products or brands that seemingly all UK bloggers and Youtubers talk about that I can't get my hands on here in Canada. So I'm looking for recommendations.

What products or brands would you recommend I get when I'm in the UK???

I guess I'm specifically looking for Drugstore (or High Street) recommendations. But also brands like Charlotte Tilbury which isn't yet carried where I live. Please leave a comment below naming some of your favourite products and if I end up buying a product you recommend I'll give your blog a shout out in my haul post when I come back :)

If you'd like to talk makeup or recommendations with me my twitter handle is @makeupbymeggy

Thank you for any recommendations!!

To celebrate getting 200 Followers on Bloglovin I'm giving away an Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick. This giveaway is open Worldwide! My plan is to have the lipstick shipped directly from either the Sephora or Feel Unique website depending on where the giveaway winner lives. This also allows the winner to choose the shade of lipstick they would like.
I have one of these lipsticks in the Shade Naked and I really like it. It's creamy and pigmented and feels really comfortable on the lips. Urban Decay is one of my favourite brands so I thought this would be the perfect product for a giveaway. I'd like to note that this isn't a sponsored giveaway. I'm purchasing it with my own money.

This giveaway is run by Rafflecopter. All you have to do to enter is be following me on Bloglovin. You can gain extra entries by also following me on Twitter and tweeting about the Giveaway. The giveaway will be open for one week. Next Wednesday June 24 I'll contact the winner.

Teal Liner for Neutral Lovers

I would definitely consider myself a neutral lover. Although I like the idea of bright and colourful makeup, I definitely feel it's too far out of my comfort zone to be able to pull it off. I have this beautiful teal liner that I've been dying to find a way to make wearable for everyday. So I've come up with some solutions.

A really subtle way to add some colour to your eyeliner look is by first drawing your regular liner on in black. I prefer to use liquid liner but gel or a pencil liner would also work. Then just draw over the liner with your teal colour. From far away it just looks black but up close and in certain lights the teal really shines.
The second option is to use the teal in your waterline. This gives that pop of colour but isn't too over powering. I also find it makes the whites of your eyes look whiter. With both these looks I wanted to keep the eyeshadow really neutral so I just used a matte shade in my crease.
If you're feeling a little brave. You can do both.
If I'm wearing a bright colour I like to keep the rest of my makeup really natural. With this eye look, I wore a matte bronzer and a subtle highlighter with no blush, as well as nude-pink lips. I really like the look of bright liner in the spring and summer and with these tips I feel any colour can be made wearable for everyday.

Makeup Tips for Glasses Wearers

I wear glasses every single day. Unfortunately I don't have contacts yet so I'm stuck with glasses if I want to be able to see. I've come up with some tips for others who wear glasses.

1. Eyebrows- Glasses draw attention to your face so you want to make sure your brows are filled and neat. In my opinion this is the most important tip for glasses wearers.

2. Concealer- Glasses can cast a shadow and make your dark under eye circles appear even darker so a good under eye concealer or correcter is a must.

3. Eyeliner- Your prescription can make your eyes appear smaller if you are near-sighted like me. To draw attention to the eyes and make them look bigger I like to use heavy liner on top and a nude liner on the bottom.

4. Go Dramatic- This isn't so much of a tip as it is an upside of wearing glasses. Since your eyeshadow is hidden behind your glasses, you can get away with more dramatic makeup during the day without looking overdone.

5. Curl your Lashes- For me this is an important step. I have long lashes which is often considered a good thing but when your mascara is leaving streaks on your glasses it can become a pain. Curling your lashes doesn't just help your eyes look bigger it can keep the lashes off the lenses.

6. Invest in a Makeup Mirror- Lastly, something people who aren't near-sighted may not think of is the need to invest in a makeup mirror. I know I have trouble doing my makeup if I can't see myself clearly in the mirror and even though I have a vanity table, the mirror is too far away. Using a mirror that comes in a product can become a pain when you now only have one hand to do all your makeup (plus those mirrors are usually pretty tiny). So a makeup mirror is essential.

Here are how some of the tips look with glasses.

What are your tips for wearing makeup and glasses?

What Goes into My No Makeup Makeup Look

I usually have about 10 minutes to do my makeup in the morning before class so I usually pull out the products that keep me from looking dead but doesn't require a full face of makeup - my No Makeup Makeup. I'm still apprehensive about putting my full face on my blog so for now you get a description of my makeup routine.
After I've done my usual cleansing and moisturizing routine, I start by applying Origin's GinZing Eyecream. This one is perfect because it depuffs and really brighten up the dark circles under my eyes. Next I fill in my brows with my Anastasia Brow Wiz. I try to keep my brows very natural, only filling in the sparse areas. By this time the eye cream has had some time to sink in so I go in with my under eye concealer. My favourite for dark circles in the itCosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye. It is extrememly thick and a very little goes a long way. I usually use just a little more than a pin prick's worth and warm it up on the back of my hand. I use my finger to blend it under my eyes because I've found that's what works best. I'll also lightly bring it onto my eyelids to cover up any veins. Next I'll take Sonia Kashuk's All Covered Up Concealer and cover any redness or spots. As this is also a very thick concealer I need to set everything. I've been using Maybelline's Dream Wonder Powder (which I've seriously hit pan on). This powder is good for setting my concealer but it also has some coverage which is good on days I'm not wearing foundation. It's also one of the only powders that doesn't accentuate my dry skin. Next I set my brows with my Estee Lauder Brow Setting Gel. This keeps them in place and helps keep the colour from fading where I've filled them in. The final step is to put on mascara. I've been adoring my Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara as it's lengthening and volumizing but feels really natural and never flakes. I have naturally long and curly lashes (I realize I'm lucky) so I don't normally curl them but that may be a step others would add in. Once 2 coats of mascara are on, I'm ready to go out the door!

What products do you use on your No Makeup Makeup days.

L'Oreal La Palette Nude 2 Review

I couldn't help myself the other day when I was in the store and I saw this beauty. I've heard a lot of good things about the new palettes from L'Oreal and this purple themed palette was screaming to me so I just had to pick it up. I'm so happy to see drugstore brands coming out with full size palettes although they generally won't be as good as high end brands, I've been fairly impressed with what I've tried so far. At $30 it's hard to call this an affordable palette but the quality lives up to the price.
The packaging is sleek and doesn't feel cheap. It comes with a skinny mirror in it which is always good and fairly rare at the drugstore. There are also suggested looks on the back which is helpful for beginners. A double ended brush and applicator is also included with the palette. While sponge tip applicators and I have never gotten along, the brush side is small but actually fairly usable.

The palette includes 6 matte shadows and 4 satin. They all have a pink or purple undertone although there are enough bronze shades you could come up with a good bronzey smokey eye. I found the matte shadows were a little more impressive than the satin shadows. Maybe that's just because good matte shadows are hard to find at the drugstore. It is important to note that there are no shimmer shadows in this palette as the whole palette leans more toward the matte side. I never wear eyeshadow without a primer so I can't speak to how long-lasting these are. However, I didn't have a problem with fallout when using these shadows and while the colour payoff isn't immediately stunning they are very buildable.

Here's some swatches and my description of the shades. Unfortunately L'Oreal only gave them numbers 1-10 and not names.
1- Light Pink (satin)
2- Rose Gold (satin)
3- Pink Taupe (matte)
4- Cool Dark Brown (matte)
5- Silver/Brown Duo Chrome (satin)
6- Warm Dark Brown (matte)
7- Bronze (satin)
8- Pale Pink (matte)
9-  Purple (matte)
10- Dark Purple (matte)

I really like this palette. It's a nice change from the typical neutral palette but the shades are still very wearable. Overall an impressive drugstore palette. I think this is the perfect palette to complement Naked 3 and I'll be doing a post comparing them soon.

May 2015 Favourites

I'm back to my regular blogging schedule! I somehow got through my two courses this month and I'm officially on summer break now before I go back for my 4th year of University in the fall. As I was in class all month and needed to be up and out of the house early I didn't end up wearing much makeup this month so my favourites are a little lacking.
I've really been enjoying using the L'Oreal La Palette Nude 2 this month. It's full of pretty purple and pink shades. I have a full review of this palette going up later this week.
I've also been wearing the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in 205 Elusive a lot this month. It's one of the most comfortable matte lip products availiable. It's pigmented and creamy and never leaves your lips feeling too dry. I really like this bright pink shade for spring.
I've also been loving the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Lip Pencil in Ozone. It goes on completely clear but keeps lipsticks from bleeding and it helps them last a lot longer. I got this sample size in my Ipsy bag but I'll probably end up purchasing another when this one runs out. I love it that much.
As I was staying up late studying and waking up early for class this month I had some serious dark under eye circles to cover. I haven't found anything as good as  the itCosmetics Bye-Bye Undereye concealer. It competely covers any darkness under my eyes and lasts all day. It's fairly thick so it needs to be set with powder but as long as I set it, it doesn't crease on me.

What were some of your favourite May products?
